Formed originally in 1990 and becoming over the years one of the most beloved icons of underground true metal in the United States, The Lord Weird Slough Feg had been around the block by the time The Animal Spirits originally came out in 2010. It was their eighth album, they’d gotten enough traction to start touring Europe regularly, and they were looking for where to go next as a band. Tired of trying to write more serious lyrics and coming off an album that saw them write their longest and most ambitious song ever, Slough Feg went in the other direction entirely here: mostly short songs, lyrics consumed with puns, artwork drawn by Scalzi himself instead of an outside artist, and every tune a wild and rocking romp, pure jamming, pure fun- all capped off with a guest vocal appearance by Bob Wright (Brocas Helm) on the final song. The end result is a fan favorite in the later years of the Slough Feg discography that a decade and a half later still gets held up as a special album even within the storied and wonderful Slough Feg discography.

For the first time since the original CD and vinyl runs in 2010 and 2011 on Cruz del Sur Music and Profound Lore Records, The Animal Spirits is back in print now some 15 years later via Nameless Grave Records complete with a lyrics sheet for the very first time, new liner notes, and a gorgeous layout from Obscure Visions. Grab it while you can!

This is the compact disc edition!

Highly recommended for fans of Brocas Helm, Manilla Road, and Thin Lizzy.

The Lord Weird Slough Feg frontman and main songwriter Mike Scalzi has self-described the early 1990s as “the most creative, most prolific period of Slough Feg songwriting.” Nameless Grave Records is proud to announce Radical Man, a special anthology featuring some of the finest representations of that time period, including one unreleased song from 1997, six tracks that until now were exclusively available as bonus tracks on the long-out-of-print first run reissues of the band’s debut album (some re-recorded for later releases, some that will be new to any fan lacking those late 1990s/early 2000s reissues of The Lord Weird Slough Feg), and a demo version of fan-favorite “Highway Corsair.”

Compiled lovingly with special liner notes written by Scalzi himself, newly-restored cover artwork that Scalzi hand-drew in 1990 for a show, and with a showcase of a variety of lost-to-time gig posters drawn by Justin Phelps (bass / The Lord Weird Slough Feg, 1991-1996) through the 1990s, Radical Man is a must-have for both superfans of the band and for fans of the “lost years” of American heavy metal in the 1990s. It’s also the next best thing to finding a new 1990s The Lord Slough Feg sitting in a dusty crate in someone’s basement, and Nameless Grave Records could not be more excited to be able to present this to the world.

This CD version comes with a 12 page booklet designed by Obscure Visions.

Highly recommended for fans of Brocas Helm, Manilla Road, and Hammers of Misfortune
