Armagedda’s debut album, “The Final War Approaching”, is a hateful slab of youthful fervour. Originally released by the iconic cult label Sombre Record in 2001, this is black metal distilled to its purest, most unadulterated form. While drenched in lo-fi minimalism, the production is absolute perfection for the material. The piercing guitar leads cut through a dense fog of reverb, while the prominent bass and drums impart a malevolent force – all of which culminates in a sinister authenticity, inimitable and true.

Reanimated by some nameless and cursed source of vitality they say it has begun pouring and trickling from the dark crevices of the North, like an ancient curse into the veins of the world. With “Only True Believers” (2003), Sweden’s Armagedda carved out a legacy in the black metal renaissance of the early 2000s. Building further on the “Under a Funeral Moon” (Darkthrone) worship of “The Final War Approaching” (2001), Armagedda cemented a foundation of their own. “Only True Believers” is a masterclass in the art of balance, merging the feverish, swinging rhythm of the relentless drumming – courtesy of Erik Danielsson of Watain – with evocative, dark melodies and rabid oration
